Elder Law/Medicaid Planning

Elder Law

Elder Law is a highly specialized area of the law that encompasses a wide range of issues, from estate planning, government benefits and asset protection to housing and care-giving options. At the Michigan Law Center, our goal is to help guide seniors and the people who love them through the myriad legal and financial challenges that accompany growing older. We can provide sound legal counsel to address your greatest concerns and most difficult questions, such as:

  • What happens if I outlive my money?
  • What strategies are available to preserve and protect my assets?
  • Are there ways to leave an inheritance to my children and future generations without losing the ability to control my finances?
  • If my spouse or I get sick, can we afford nursing home care?
  • Am I eligible for Medicaid assistance to help pay for a nursing home stay, and if so, how can I obtain it?

Medicaid Planning

You’ve no doubt heard that it is very expensive to stay in a nursing home. Just how expensive is it? Depending on where you live in Michigan, and the type of care you require, costs average between $5,000 and $9,000 per month! Given this, and the fact that Medicare will not cover these costs, it should come as little surprise to learn two-thirds of families run out of money within the first year of a prolonged nursing home stay.

At the Michigan Law Center, we can design a plan to protect your life savings in the event of incapacity and the need to enter a nursing home. We have helped numerous clients protect their assets and homes, and leave an inheritance for their loved ones, by putting a vast array of powerful estate planning tools (promissory notes, life estates, trusts, annuities and many more), together with assistance from Medicaid, to work on their behalf. We invite you to contact us to learn what we can do for you and your family.

A Medicaid Crisis

Of course, it is not always possible to plan ahead for physical or mental incapacity. What if you or a loved one has already been admitted to a nursing home, or will have to enter one very soon, and have been told you have too many assets to qualify for Medicaid assistance? In legal circles, this is called a Medicaid Crisis, and it is a stressful situation faced all too often by seniors and the people who love them. If you or someone you love is currently facing a Medicaid Crisis, please contact us as soon as possible. We can help you obtain the assistance from Medicaid you may be entitled to and protect your hard-earned assets.
